Patient Participation at Horne Street Surgery

2013-2014

 INTRODUCTION

The practice has had a patient group since around 2005.  At first it was a formal group with a limited number of members.   The practice now encourages as many people as would like to get involved to attend.  There are no formal terms of reference for this “new” group and patients are encouraged to suggest topics for discussion.

Patients are encouraged to participate in the group through posters in the waiting room, adverts on our website and articles in our quarterly newsletter.

Currently we have 15 patients who have indicated an interest in being involved.  These patients receive invites personally to any planned meetings or events by email or post if they have no email address recorded.   This is 6 more than we had last year.

The practice continues to operate a patient “Comment” book on the main reception desk and patients are encouraged to write in here.    Staff can also write comments that patient are passing on verbally to them in this book.

This book is reviewed regularly at management and practice meetings.  A member of the management team checks comments frequently and where appropriate writes a short response in the book to any answerable comments.

The group is reasonably representative of the list size although having some more people involved from Ethnic Minorities would be useful especially the Pakistani group as this represents over 75% or our practice list.
